What is in the Doctor’s Bag?

As physicians whose medical practice is located in patients’ homes, we carry with us a “doctor’s bag.” Dr. Anderson’s bag is made of genuine walrus skin and was used by his grandfather back when he did home visits in the 1940’s, even before penicillin was discovered. Dr. Rosen had his bag custom made in Guatemala before moving to the Navajo Reservation, where he had the privilege to attend patients in very remote parts of the Four Corners.

In our “doctor’s bag” we keep basic instruments, such as a stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, & pulse oximeter, as well as gloves, various bandages, sutures, an IV start kit, and commonly used medications, including Toradol, Phenergan, Zofran, and Solu-Medrol. We even fit an EKG, hand-held ultrasound, and extra Covid tests in those bags!
